Police say an Anniston man was charged with felony domestic violence on Tuesday after intentionally throwing coffee on a 5-year-old boy.

Anniston police Sgt. Chris Sparks said officers met the mother of the boy at Stringfellow Memorial Hospital around 4 p.m. Tuesday. The boy received treatment at the hospital for burns on his hip, Sparks said. The sergeant was uncertain today of the severity of the child’s burns or his current condition.

Sparks said officers went to the child’s home on the 1500 block of Walnut Avenue on Tuesday and arrested Ravois Johnson, 33, of Anniston, on second-degree domestic violence charges.

Johnson was a relative of the boy, Sparks said, and lives with the child at the home. Sparks said the reason why Johnson threw the hot drink was still under investigation.

Johnson was in the Anniston City Jail this morning. Bond is set at $5,000, Sparks said.
