Investigators responded to a call at Regional Medical Center around 10:20 p.m. Tuesday, after a man showed up with a gunshot wound to his left knee, Sgt. Josh Doggrell said.
The 38-year-old man told police he had been pumping gas about an hour earlier when he heard “a popping noise and felt a burning sensation” in his knee, Doggrell said.
When the man saw that he had been shot, he went to RMC, the sergeant said, where he underwent a minor operation.
Officers interviewed the man after surgery and observed a small-caliber bullet in the man’s knee.
Attendants at the Shell station told police they had witnessed nothing out of the ordinary and didn’t know about the shooting until asked about it by investigators, Doggrell said.
Investigators Wednesday morning were attempting to obtain copies of the gas station surveillance video. They said they had identified no suspects.
