A 4-year-old struck by a motorcycle while crossing a street in north Anniston Wednesday night may be released from UAB Hospital by Friday, Anniston police said today.

Meanehile, Investigator Roy Bennett Thursday said he provided incorrect information to The Star Wednesday regarding the driver of the motorcycle. Terry Johnson, 44, of Anniston was traveling west on East Glade Road on his Harley Davidson motorcycle when he struck Maurice Jones, 32, of Anniston and Jones’ 5-year-old daughter and 4-year-old son, who were crossing the street around 8:15 p.m.

Jones and his daughter were treated at Regional Medical Center for minor injuries and released, Bennett said. The 4-year-old was airlifted to UAB Hospital in serious but stable condition.

On Thursday, Bennett said the child may be released as early as Friday.

“That’s very good news,” Bennett said. “This looked like it had all the makings of something tragic.”

Johnson and his passenger, Betty Adams, received minor injuries in the accident, but declined transportation to the hospital. Bennett said the incident was under investigation, but it is believed Johnson was traveling at the posted speed limit of 30 mph at the time of the accident.
