A 30-year-old woman told police Wednesday that she was strangled and punched by her ex-husband.

Anniston police Capt. Allen George said the incident occurred on the 900 block of Lloyd Street, where the suspect and victim live together. The incident occurred around 3:30 p.m., according to a police report.

George said the two were arguing when the suspect grabbed the victim by her throat and strangled her. The captain said the woman pushed the suspect away and the man punched her in the mouth.

The victim fled to a neighbor’s home and called police, George said.

The suspect was gone by the time police arrived, according to the captain.

Officers observed red marks on the victim’s neck and face as well as blood around her mouth, George said. The victim refused medical treatment.

George said the incident was still under investigation today.

Any suspect could be charged with domestic violence by strangulation, a felony.
