PLEASANT VALLEY – It’s not how Pleasant Valley imagined it would get its first victory this season, but the Raiders enter the win column following Victory Christian forfeit of Friday night’s contest between the two teams.

Alabama High School Athletic Association rules count this game as a region loss for Victory Christian and a region win for Pleasant Valley. Rules say Victory Christian could be fined $1,000.

“This is my 36th year to be in it and other than someone being ineligible and having the forfeit a game, this is a first,” Pleasant Valley coach Jeff Davis said. “At this point our kids aren’t going to get to play, but I understand.”

Victory Christian coach Bobby Fairley said the Lions (1-2, 0-2 Class 2A, Region 6) have several “significant injuries,” which is causing them to take the loss without taking the field.

Fairley added most of the key injuries came during Victory Christian’s Week 2 loss to Woodland 41-0 and this past Friday’s 78-0 lopsided loss to Wellborn. Victory Christian opened the season with a 28-26 win over Alabama School for the Deaf.

For Pleasant Valley (0-3, 0-2), Davis said his team is taking the week to rest and overcome injuries on its own.

“We spent Monday getting ready for Victory Christian, but we spent Tuesday focusing on ourselves,” he said. “I gave them Wednesday off and we’re going to work for about two hours (today) on things we need to correct. We’re going to take Friday off and recover.

“We were beat up. We needed some time to get some kids well. Getting them healthy is a positive.”

Pleasant Valley has defeated Victory Christian in all three of their contests in the series history, including a 55-0 victory a week ago. The Raiders' next game will be at home against White Plains on Sept. 27. Fairley said Victory Christian plans to return to the field against Decatur Heritage Christian Academy next week.
