Oxford police found the device after arresting an Anniston man in connection with the burglary of a vacant home on Burtram Drive.
Oxford police Lt. L.G. Owens said his department responded to the burglary call at 10:26 a.m. He said witnesses gave a description of the suspect and his car — a red Ford Ranger.
Officers located the suspect, Johnny Wade Stevens, 34, of Anniston, less than a mile from the scene, and pulled him over on the 1400 block of Beck Road.
Police discovered the pipe bomb inside the cab of Stevens’ truck, Owens said.
According to Owen, Stevens is charged with burglary. Stevens was still in custody in Oxford City Jail Friday evening.
