A two-vehicle crash on Bynum Leatherwood Road early Friday morning left one man dead and another injured, according to local emergency officials.

Jed Dautenhahn, 39, of Jacksonville, died on impact by means of blunt-force trauma, according to Calhoun County Coroner Pat Brown. The other driver was taken to Regional Medical Center by Anniston EMS, according to Brown and EMS field supervisor Caleb Dulaney.

According to Brown, the accident occurred around 5:20 a.m. near Gate 8 Road. Brown said Dautenhahn had been driving toward Alabama 202 in a Honda Accord and the other driver had been heading north, toward U.S. 431.

Brown said he did not know the exact cause of the crash, but that Dautenhahn had been driving without his seat belt properly fastened.

Brown said he did not know the condition of the other driver Friday evening.

Attempts to reach Sgt. Steve Jarrett or a spokesperson with the Alabama State Troopers were unsuccessful Friday.
