A canned food drive, to help local families have a Thanksgiving dinner, is being held through Tuesday at Xtreme Auto Spa in Anniston and Gamecock Auto Spa in Jacksonville.

The Weaver Christmas parade will be held at 10:30 a.m. Dec. 7 beginning at the Weaver Elementary School and ending at Weaver Park. A chili contest will be held the same day. Contestants in the chili contest are asked to have their chili in a slow cooker and be ready at the park at 9:30 a.m. for judging. Christmas in the Park will be held after the parade. East Alabama Regional Planning and Development Commission’s Area Agency on Aging (EARPDC) will host prescription drug plan enrollment assistance events at the following times and dates:

• 9 a.m.-3 p.m., Monday, and Dec. 2 and 6 at East Alabama Regional Planning and Development.

• 9 a.m.-2 p.m., Wednesday at Jacksonville Senior Center.

• 9 a.m.-3 p.m., Dec. 5 at Anniston Senior Center at Fort McClellan.

Calhoun County elected officials will partner with EARPDC to help Medicare recipients compare prescription drug plans.

To help develop a plan comparison, Medicare recipients will need to bring their Medicare card, along with a complete list of the medications they are taking and the dosages.

People will be assisted on a first-come, first-served basis. Each session will last about 40 minutes. There may be a wait time for assistance. Call 800-243-5463, ext. 150, with any questions.
