After much consideration I made my decision on who should give the eulogy. I thought it fitting that I be the one to eulogize them — the ones who walked for miles with me, stood with me through trials and tribulations, and made me smile countless times.
My shoe collection will be incomplete without them. They were conversation pieces: a nude pair with clusters of silver studs cascading down the heel, a black and white zebra print pair with a buckle across the red toe, and a charcoal gray suede platform pair with a pewter metallic heel. They were my foundation. From early in the morning until late in the evening, they supported me. We went everywhere together and there was no jealousy between us. When they received praise, I smiled.
All three were staple pieces for all seasons. Worn with white blazers or white tees in spring and summer and also with a cozy turtleneck, a sweater dress and a leather jacket when the weather turned cold, they were always the center of attention. Whether shown in full display with cuffed skinny jeans or peeking from underneath long and lean jeans, they were sure to be a hit.
It is with a heavy heart that I must say goodbye to each of them. Although there is a void knowing that I can no longer rely on my favorite “go to” shoes to pull an outfit together, I find comfort in knowing that they served their purpose and were well worth the price I paid.
It is also with anticipation that I am planning my next shoe shopping trip — after I dry my tears.
