“I am proud to have supported meritorious projects throughout Alabama during my career,” Shelby said in a statement. “While I regret that this decision may subordinate our state's interests to those of the Obama administration, I have heard the message of the American people and will abide by the Republican Conference's position.”
What's not clear is the fate of earmarks in the 2011 budgets, which have not been approved, but will likely be debated when the Senate meets in December. UA asked Shelby to earmark $46.5 million for next year, according to Shelby's website.
