Mom sues Birmingham schools, says son beaten at Barrett Elementary
A Birmingham woman who claims her son was beaten with a belt by his second-grade teacher for missing six answers on a test has filed a federal lawsuit against the teacher and the Birmingham city school system.
Sarah Blackmon said her 9-year-old son, referred to as TW in the lawsuit because he is a minor, was struck with the belt -- and the belt buckle -- six times, once for each question he missed on the test.
