Mobile mayor says sales tax defeat will cause layoffs

After the Anniston City Council voted down a 1 percent sales tax earlier this week, it was interesting to see this report from The Press-Register that Mobile's mayor has a similar opinion to Anniston Mayor Gene Robinson.

After the Mobile City Council voted Thursday to reject a 1 percent sales tax increase, Mayor Sam Jones said in a statement that he would have no choice but to institute massive layoffs.

Jones said the layoffs would hit every department, including police and fire.
