A 21-year-old man told police he was struck in the face with a handgun Monday around 3 p.m. outside a home on the 400 block of East 23rd Street, according to Anniston police Capt. Allen George. George said the suspect accused the victim of breaking into his home last week.
During the confrontation, the suspect thrust a black handgun into the victim’s chest, George said. The victim pushed the pistol away and was struck in the face with the gun, the captain said. George said the victim knocked the gun out of the suspect’s hand, picked it up and fled to his residence. The victim was treated at Stringfellow Memorial Hospital and is expected to recover from his injuries.
Police recovered a black 9 mm handgun, one magazine and five bullets from the victim, according to a police report.
George said the incident was under investigation this morning.
A suspect could be charged with second-degree assault, a felony, according to the report.
