Alexander Leo Rodgers, 23, was arrested and charged with receiving stolen property after Weaver police early this morning found in his vehicle 35 cell phones stolen from the Alabama Army National Guard’s Officer Candidate School at Fort McClellan.
The phones were reported stolen Tuesday night by a group training at the Officer Candidate School. Anniston police Sgt. Josh Doggrell said the trainees had to store their personal belongings in a separate facility during the weekend training. That facility was broken into sometime between Friday and Monday, he said.
Doggrell said investigators compiled a list of 12 people who could have had access to the facility over the weekend. Police believe Rodgers might be related to one of the 12.
According to police reports, 35 cell phones valued at a total of more than $3,500 were stolen from the facility, including 14 iPhones and seven Motorola Droids.
Rodgers was being held at the Calhoun County Jail Wednesday morning. No bond or court had been set.
