Jail officials said Otis Lee Hunter, 28, was arrested by Anniston warrants officers and transported to the jail early Thursday morning. Hunter was arrested on a charge of failing to appear in court, a jail official said. That charge is not related to the shooting.
Hunter was being held Thursday for Jacksonville police.
Jacksonville Assistant Chief Bill Wineman said police suspect Hunter of shooting Anniston resident Jonathan Kirksey at Jacksonville Mobile Home Park last month. When police responded to the scene, they found Kirksey, 26, lying on the ground with two gunshot wounds in his left leg.
Jacksonville police were searching for Hunter for a day before Hunter called them July 27 to say he would turn himself in, Wineman told The Star.
But he never showed up that day, said Investigator Joey Martin.
Jacksonville police have charged Hunter with first-degree assault, and bond will be set at $30,000.
