Jacksonville State University’s Women’s Issues Support and Empowerment group, or W.I.S.E., is dedicated to ending violence against women and girls through education and awareness.

Their primary money-raising event is the presentation of Eve Ensler’s play, “The Vagina Monologues.” This year the club will also present an additional play, “A Memory, A Monologue, A Rant, and A Prayer,” on March 11-13 at the McClellan Theater. All profits from the presentations go to local organizations dedicated to ending violence against women, as well as to the W.I.S.E. Legacy Scholarship, a scholarship awarded yearly to worthy JSU students.

The cast for both plays is selected from JSU students. Last year’s play was exceptional, and this year’s efforts promise to be just as excellent. I urge all concerned Calhoun County residents to attend these two plays and lend your support to a violence-free life for all women everywhere.

“The Vagina Monologues” will be presented Feb. 25-27 at JSU’s McClellan Theater.
