JACKSONVILLE — Jacksonville State got a chance to run the only play it probably hasn’t pulled out of its playbook this season in the closing seconds Saturday – Victory.

The Gamecocks picked up their first Ohio Valley Conference victory of the season Saturday, 31-16 over Southeast Missouri at JSU Stadium.

One week after having its lines of scrimmage vilified in a big loss, the trenches helped lead the Gamecocks’ way.

JSU had 429 yards of offense – 268 on the ground -- and held SEMO to 303.

Running back Damarcus James rushed for 149 yards and two touchdowns. Quarterback Marques Ivory was 14 of 18 passing for 161 yards and two touchdowns. Alan Bonner caught seven passes for 92 yards.

The Gamecocks (2-2, 1-1 OVC) played the entire game without a turnover. SEMO came into the game leading the country in takeaways (16) and interceptions (10).

Their other victory came on a last-second field goal to beat Chattanooga in their home opener.

SEMO fell to 2-3 overall, 1-1 in the OVC.
