This is a good thing; many Pleasant Valley Sundays now can be spent discovering the resources of the World Wide Web for both education and enjoyment. But the benefits do not stop here. This Internet connectivity also will provide residents access to the Alabama Virtual Library (arguably the best thing the Legislature ever did for education in this state), electronic books and even (gasp!) online university library catalogs.
Not everything that is, is on the Internet; and not everything that is on the Internet is on Google. Those who confine their online searching skills to just surfing the Web will miss out on much that is enjoyable, enlightening and informative. And for any career in which research is included in the job description, those who never get beyond Google quickly will discover that they have holes in their game and simply are unable to compete in an arena where the competition now is global.
