Willie Lee Rolley, 23, of Huntsville, refused to go back into his cell Saturday around 8:30 a.m. after he was freed for the allotted time given to inmates each day, according to Chief Deputy Matthew Wade. When an officer tried to get Rolley back in his cell he attacked the officer. Other officers were eventually able to subdue him, Wade said. The officer under attack did not require medical treatment, the chief deputy said. Rolley was charged with felony second degree assault.
“We try to handle things in a professional manner and to be reasonable and talk to (inmates),” Wade said.
Wade said Rolley has been disciplined for acting out against officers and inmates 46 times since December.
“He’s listed in our system as violent.” Wade said.
Rolley has been in the Calhoun County Jail since November on a hold for the U.S. Marshal Service, Wade said.
A court date for Rolley is scheduled for April 11.
