The eastbound inside lane of the interstate between mile markers 192 and 194 is already closed, according to an ALDOT press release. Meanwhile, the westbound outside lane between mile marker 192.5 and mile marker 191 is closed until 5 p.m. today so that crews can remove concrete barriers.
At noon Tuesday, the release states, that lane will be opened and the eastbound outside lane will be closed so work can be done on it. The eastbound outside lane is expected to be closed until noon Thursday. ALDOT spokeswoman Rebecca White said the lane shifts were being done during the day to provide better visibility
From exit 186 to exit 188, both eastbound and westbound traffic is being shifted to the outside shoulder of the road, a change that will be in effect until December. From mile marker 190 to 192, traffic will be diverted to the inbound shoulder until Aug. 3.
The speed limit throughout the construction area is 55 mph, the ALDOT release said. The road work is part of a larger project to repave and add a lane to the interstate from Oxford to the Cleburne County line.
