Hudspeth, who recently signed a national letter of intent to play at Chattahoochee Valley Community College, earned her reputation in college recruiting circles on the summer travel ball circuit.
Hudspeth played with the Valley Cubs as a freshman then transferred to Ragland where she played as a sophomore but chose not to continue her prep career once she returned to the Valley.
Hudspeth played for the White Lightning Blue 93 squad, operated out of Hoover.
White Lightning coach Jay Waters said Hudspeth impressed Lady Pirates coach Steve O’Steen with excellent control on her pitches and her ability to keep hitters off balance with an array of pitches.
“It’s a great feeling, knowing all the hard work paid off,” said Hudspeth, who stays in shape by running and working out with her stepfather Chad Adams.
The right-hander said her pitching arsenal includes a fastball, changeup, curveball, screwball and drop ball.
“She faced some really tough competition,” Waters said. “She pitched well against the Southern Force out of Georgia at a tournament in Chattanooga and they finished fifth at nationals.”
Hudspeth finished the travel ball season, which runs from June until October, with a 3.0 earned run average. That was the second-best mark on a pitching staff that included three college signees. She also had a 2-to-1 strikeout to walk ratio while giving up an on-base percentage of .319 to opposing offenses.
