White Plains — When his teams steps onto the hardwood at Jacksonville State’s Pete Mathews Coliseum for its Calhoun County Tournament opener, White Plains boys coach Chris Randall hopes it will be the first of several games at the venue this season.

In addition to hosting the tournament for more than two decades, “The Pete” is also the site of the Alabama High School Athletic Association’s Northeast Regional tournament, the round just before the Final 48 in Birmingham.

“We just want to get back to the regional,” Randall said. “We want to get back in that atmosphere. Winning the county tournament, that’s something that’s never been done at a school our size.”
