How can any state honor a traitor with a state holiday?

Robert E. Lee took up arms against the government of the United States. He, along with every other rebel who took up arms against the United States, were traitors and as such should have been hung at the end of hostilities.

To honor a traitor who killed U.S. soldiers is an insult to every man and woman who has ever served in the U.S. military.
