If you're a baseball fan, you surely know the World Series began Wednesday night. (The Boston Red Sox pummeled the St. Louis Cardinals, 9-1; game two is tonight.) Despite all the bluster about the demise of America's pastime and the popularity of football and basketball, the World Series' TV numbers on Fox didn't disappoint.
Early figures show that there was a 25 percent increase nationally in viewership over the first game of last year's World Series. There's still a big gap between the World Series viewership and that of, say, the Super Bowl, which dominates everything in terms of sports TV numbers. But it's worth noting whenever baseball-haters talk about it as a dying national sport.
