The "United States of Shame" has a certain ring to it, as highly sensational as it may be.

Nevertheless, this map assembled by the political website policymic.com is worth a few minutes of your time -- if for no other reason than to gawk at the worst attributes of our neighboring states. It's not surprising that Alabama's well-documented health problems are again highlighted. (Though it's based on statistics from official, legitimate sources, this kind of online journalism isn't worth that much. But we'll look at it, even so.)

Perhaps the most interesting part is that while most states' worst traits are highly negative, a few got off particularly easy. Case in point: Iowa is the oldest state, and Ohio is the nerdiest state. On the shame factor, that's not much to worry about.
