Granted, this is an odd question for a random Wednesday afternoon -- do animals have humanity?

I'm not inclined to start a lengthy discussion about Darwin, evolution, the Bible and the like. Leave that for another day.

Nevertheless, a story in today's New York Times is getting all sorts of online attention after news last week that an advocacy group in New York had filed writs of habeas corpus on behalf of four captive chimpanzees. (The suits were dismissed.)

Read the story and see what you think. Even if you wholeheartedly disagree with it, it's nevertheless an interesting, if not controversial, subject.
