WEDNESDAY’S LIST ... of beans ’n greens ’n other things: * * * IF YOU HAVE a taste for pancakes the Anniston Kiwanis Club has a stack (with all the fixings) waiting for you this Saturday at the City Meeting Center.

The price is $4 for advance tickets, $5 at the door. That’s a bargain at either price in that you can go back as long as you can hold more. That includes pancakes (baked fresh) with syrup, sausage, coffee, milk or soda.

I’m not sure how many years the Kiwanians have been holding their Pancake Day, but I know it’s been 20 years or more and countless underprivileged kids in our area benefit.

The money is used to outfit the kids with back-to-school supplies. You might also like to know none of the proceeds from the “Day” can be used in any way for club operations or members.

This is one of the more worthwhile charitable efforts in our town ... and I hope to see you Saturday at anytime between 6 a.m. (for you early risers) and 1 that afternoon.

Go ... and take people with you.

— Little Jimmy Dickens * * * OOPS: In Sunday’s column I mentioned a poster of “the late” Little Jimmy Dickens hanging on the wall of the Abanda Café and Bake Shop.

Well, a couple of readers out there inform me that Dickens is still alive and in his '90s.

It is no secret I love the “old” country best, but I was never a Dickens fan. But the guy was (and is, of course) flat out funny.

Sorry about that ... but I am absolutely positive that Roy Acuff, Eddy Arnold, and Hank Williams Sr. ARE no longer of this world.

So there ...

* * * BACK TO EATING:

I have a couple of new eateries to pass along.

1. If you have reason to be in Gadsden during the week, make it along about lunch time and visit the Courtyard Café downtown on Broad Street. The place seats about 300 and is packed out for lunch, but the service is great. And it’s home cooking, nothing fancy.

2. In Ashville, hit the Picnic Basket, a smallish little place with as good a barbecue as you’ll eat. And the ribs are out of sight. Home cooking is out of sight, too. If you’re heading into Ashville (going north) on U.S. 280, hang a right one block from the courthouse. It will be on your left ... quickly.

You can thank me later.

* * * TOP TEEN: Say hello to Adrianne Michelle Curry, a senior at Trinity Christian where she is on the A/B Honor Roll and is a second generation to attend the school.

She is a YLCC graduate, a cheerleader, plays on the volleyball team, and is active in the New Haven Baptist Church Youth group.

Adrianne plans to enter Pensacola Christian College in Florida in the fall.

“Adrianne has attended TCA her entire school life,” says Pam Cason, school counselor. “She has matured academically, socially, and spiritually into a tremendous young lady. She will be missed here at TCA.”
