FRIDAY’S LIST ... of beans ’n greens ’n other things:

I WOULD like for you to meet Ellison Kate Smith, but you’ll have to wait until sometime in June. That’s the time frame for when Ellison Kate leaves exclusive time with her mom, Melissa Sturdivant Smith, and joins the rest of the family.

The June father is James Tyler Smith, my grandson, and you may have heard the joy on Arrow Avenue when the call came from Tuscaloosa. If you didn’t, you need to go see Dr. Beltone.

Wow, a girl baby after all the generations of boy babies. Make that three of four generations in Smith men’s links with their mortality – that’s what a son is to a dad, his link with immortality – going back to my grandfather, the late James Houston Smith, who was one of three boys.

Houston Smith and wife Hattie Cook, in turn, produced nine kids. Eight of them were boys. My dad had a bit of a skip, two boys with three girls, but things got back on track when the blonde and I got together. We had two boys. Son and heir and wife Susie have three boys.

Pink in our family was a color seen mostly on Easter eggs. It is now our family’s official color.

OK, I know this is personal and you could care less, but this morning I’m a boring/bragging “to-be-great.”

One other thing. Tyler and Melissa did not have to get a sonogram to learn a future Miss Universe is due in June.

Julia Burton, a great lady in my life who knows stuff I can only dream of, hit the nail. When she heard the baby did a lot of bouncing around in the hangar, it was:

“Going to be a girl. Girls are never still, even before they’re born.”

QUOTABLE: Behind every great man is a woman rolling her eyes.” – Jim Carrey

A TIP: If you want to remove a label from a bottle, jar, or whatever, wrap with a paper towel, soak with water, let sit for 15 minutes or so. Comes off as if never glued.

Roy Snead Jr. showed that one to me a few days back when he stopped by the house.

For you who came in late, he and his dad held the sheriff’s office for like two centuries or so.

IN CASE you missed it, first class stamps jump up three cents from 46 cents as of Jan. 26.

You can beat that by stocking up on them now at 46 cents. In case you didn’t know it, all stamps are now “forever.”

BIRTHDAYS: Dec. 22 – Eleanor Thompson; Dec. 23 – Noel Lashley and Roger Burton; Dec. 24 – Joyce Hess and Truman Norred; Dec. 25 – Ken Baswell; Dec. 28 – Mark Middlebrook;

TOP TEEN: Say hello to Austin Jennings, a senior at Weaver High School, where his plans include a major in education. He will use that as a stepping stone to become a high school football coach.

There is a bit of background already. Austin has lettered four years in football for the Bearcats. A wide receiver, he was twice named captain of the team and was a two-time All-County selection. Austin also lettered in baseball four years and is a member of the Circle of Champions.

He “gives” back, too, in that he is involved in the Big Brothers/Big Sisters program.

“Austin is an exceptional student in the classroom and on the playing field,” says Senior Counselor Dawn Clark. “He is a leader with unquestionable character and work ethic. Austin is definitely our go-to guy to get the job done right.”

Proud parents are Stacy and Melissa Jennings, FOP Road, Weaver.

Take a bow, kid ...
