He pitched the fifth and sixth innings in a 5-4 home loss to the Pittsburgh Pirates, allowing three hits and a run while striking out three.
Hand, 26, a 14th-round pick in the 2007 draft by Milwaukee, filed the roster spot of closer Jim Henderson, who was placed on the 15-day disabled list Saturday with a right hamstring strain.
Hand is from Hatton, and his parents and brother drove from Alabama to attend the game.
"My dad has dreamed of this for all his life. He wouldn't miss it for the world," Hand said.
The right-hander had pitched for Class Triple-A Nashville this season, posting a 2-1 record with a 3.18 ERA in 16 appearances, all in relief. He struck out 32 batters with only nine walks.
