I was born in Anniston and attended South Highland Elementary School, Cobb Avenue and Calhoun County High School. I am the daughter of Sharlie Martin and the sister of Lewis Martin. We grew up at 201 S. Quintard Ave. Our neighbors were Cpt. and Mrs. Ezell, Mr. and Mrs. Mondy, Mr. and Mrs. Kauffman, and Mr. and Mrs. Shelton, our postman.

My mother worked for Mrs. Wright, her daughter’s name was Patty; worked for Attorney Mr. and Mrs. William Andrew and also Bud Kitchin and his family. I worked for Lucy Rothman, Dr. Sellers and his family and also his brother-in-law, Mr. Crabtree, who was a doctor.

This is the city I told my son Marcus about. He lived vicariously through my eyes about Anniston.

All the things I told my son about when I was growing up there made his eyes light up. I left Aug. 3, 1961. I had Marcus Oct. 28, 1960. I was working for Cpt. James P. Gilmore and his wife Barbara with their five children at Fort McClellan.

Your City Councilman Marcus Dunn Sr. is not running for power, he’s running because of what he can contribute to the city. He believes in the future of Anniston, education for our youth, creating more jobs and the safety of the residents in Anniston. My son stands for integrity and believes in family values.

Councilman Marcus Dunn and his brothers Eric, Tyrone and Rodney (Ron) have all served their country in the military.

So now if you see him and remember his grandmother Sharlie, his mom H. Jean Martin or his uncle Lewis (Junebug) Martin, go up to him and at least shake his hand and let him know who you are or your family.
