The county’s unemployment rate for October was 8.2 percent, up from 7.8 percent in September, according to numbers from the Alabama Department of Labor. There were 4,415 people seeking benefits for being without work in the month, up from 4,166 in September.
But more people also were working in October than in the month before, according to the Labor Department’s estimates, which showed the total labor force - those working and seeking work - growing by 834. In all, 49,670 people in Calhoun County were employed, up from 49,085 in September.
The state unemployment rate dipped to 8.1 percent, according to the Labor Department, as the number of Alabamians seeking benefits fell in October and the number of people working grew.
