Star Publisher H. Brandt Ayers, like most liberal media executives, is so blinded by his own self righteousness and self esteem that he cannot see the forest for the trees.
His blatant attack upon the South, of which he has been a part for so long, is full of errors. Yes, there was a time when the South was a solid Democratic portion of the nation and the Democrats took us for granted just as the Republicans do now. I was a staunch Democrat as a young man, but I flipped over to the Republicans long before most others did.
Mr. Ayers, I am not a racist, I have always spoken to blacks older than I with “Yes sir” and “No sir.” I am now 82 and I continue to do so, even if they are not older than I. The Civil Rights Act passed in 1964 had absolutely nothing to do with the “morphing” of Southerners to the Republican Party. What converted me and many others to the more conservative party was the lack of respect for life, for religion, for freedom, for responsible fiscal policies and others.
The South is still the Bible Belt, Mr. Ayers, and anyone who agrees with abortion and with same-sex marriage cannot justify their stand by the Holy Bible. The Star has received its last money from me. I have been angered enough. I know that my subscription is not worth much, but I suspect that others will have had the same reaction as I have to this latest tirade.
