After review of the replays by NASCAR, Clint Bowyer was awarded the win.
The call NASCAR had to make was between Bowyer and teammate Kevin Harvick, who finished second.
Pole sitter Juan Pablo Montoya finished third, David Reutimann fourth and Joey Logano fifth.
The victory was Bowyer's fourth win in his 178 career Cup races, and the 11th victory at Talladega Superspeedway for Richard Childress Racing, which is the most among car owners.
While the day was without a large multi-car accident, that wasn't the biggest news. The Chase for the Sprint Cup is now as much of a logjam as its ever been with three races to go.
Denny Hamlin came into the race six points back of Johnson, winner of four straight championships. Hamlin is now 14 points back, but Harvick, who started 62 points behind, is now within 38 points of Johnson.
