That’s how Anniston schools Superintendent Joan Frazier summed up the situation facing students and staff of Anniston Middle School in the wake of a blown electrical transformer that forced the school to limp through its post-lunch classes on Tuesday.
The transformer had not been struck by lightning, she said.
Earlier tonight — about 9:45 p.m. Tuesday — she got word from Alabama Power that repairs will likely take all day Wednesday, thus forcing classes to be cancelled; it’s hard to fill brains when tummies are empty.
In addition, she noted, the day is supposed to be cold, so heat in the building would be desirable.
Frazier said the school's automated notification service was put into operation to make the 2,300 calls necessary to let parents or guardians know of the change in plans.
The transformer that blew out is located on the back side of school property.
Frazier said that based on what she knew of the situation Tuesday night, classes would resume Thursday.
