Ann Marie Campbell pleaded guilty Thursday in the shooting, which happened last year in Chilton County.
Authorities say Campbell killed her 11-year-old son Johnny Michael Campbell and wounded another son who was 15 at the time.
WBRC-TV (http://bit.ly/Unrg6j ) reports prosecutors are recommending sentences of 30 years in prison for Campbell's guilty plea to murder and another 20 years for her plea to an attempted murder. The sentences would run at the same time.
A judge scheduled a sentencing hearing for Jan. 3.
The estate of the dead boy has filed suit claiming welfare workers failed to protect the child from harm.
