CENTRE (AP) — Gadsden State Community College's campus in Centre was shut down for the day after a woman's body was found inside the campus athletic arena.

Centre Mayor Tony Wilkie says the woman found at Gadsden State-Cherokee was the victim of a possible homicide, but police aren't yet releasing details.

Wilkie says someone found the body in a mechanical room under the arena bleachers about 9 a.m. Wednesday.

He says the dead woman is not a student, but authorities haven't released her identity.

Wilkie says suicide was ruled out as a cause of death, and the case could wind up being classified as a homicide.

The community college called off classes for the day after discovery of the body, but the mayor says it could reopen as early as Thursday.
