The Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office this week arrested an Ohatchee man in connection with an unsolved homicide from 2009.

Michael William Kiser, 32, was arrested Monday and charged with capital murder in the shooting death of Donald Cameron at Cameron’s home in Ohatchee in December of 2009, according to a press release from the Attorney General’s Office.

Cameron, 47 at the time of his death, was found dead in his Lakeshore Drive home the day after Christmas by Ohatchee police. Cameron’s mother called police worried after she had not heard from her son for several days.

According to the press release, a Calhoun County grand jury indicted Kiser on May 10. The release said no other information about the crime was available.

Attempts to reach the Attorney General’s Office today were unsuccessful.

Calhoun County Chief Deputy Matthew Wade said other than the arrest, the Sheriff’s Office has not been involved with the case or investigation.

The press release said the Alabama Bureau of Investigation handled the case, which will be prosecuted by Assistant Attorneys General Andrew Arrington and Ternisha Miles.

Kiser is being held without bond at the Calhoun County Jail. He is scheduled to appear in court on Aug. 1. If convicted, he could face the death penalty.
