Calhoun County’s unemployment rate decreased in August, in contrast with a rise in the state’s average jobless rate.

According to the Alabama Department of Industrial Relations, the county’s unemployment rate dropped to 8.9 percent in August from 9.4 percent in July. In contrast, the state average unemployment rate was 8.5 percent in August, a slight increase from 8.3 percent in July.
