A burglar made off with a big-screen television and cash from the Anniston Municipal Golf Course sometime Wednesday morning, according to Anniston police.

A suspect broke into a back door at the course’s club house sometime between midnight and 7 a.m. and stole a 46-inch television and money from the cash register, according to a police report.

A worker at the golf course, who wished not to be identified because he is a city employee, said criminal mischief usually happens every four to five years at the golf course, although he said it’s been about 20 years since someone broke into the club house. The last incident he recalled involved stolen golf carts from the facility’s storage garage a few years ago.

“It’s usually just kids,” he said. “They actually left quite a mess this time, but we got it cleaned up now.”

Despite the clean-up, the golf course remained open Wednesday and didn’t delay operations.

“We’re doing okay,” he said. “It could have been a lot worse.”

Anniston police Lt. Fred Forsythe said the department is investigating the incident.
