New York was hit hard by Hurricane Sandy. This storm, covering 24 states, was the worst in a hundred years. Damages are around $50 billion. The famous Seaside Heights at the Jersey Shore got especially hammered and will never be the same. It was a classic for old-timers who spent many hours there filled with rides, food and fun. Now the broken-down roller coaster is a grim reminder of the drama that took place.

Huge waves rolled in and, with the fury of the wind, changed New York and surrounding areas into a nightmare of people stranded without power, gas and food. Their houses were broken into pieces. On top of that, the storm victims were furious about being billed for big power bills even when they did not have power for an extensive period. Most places now are exempt from that.

The survivor mode grew into anger and frustration as people lacked everything. Workers had to labor desperately to pump water out everywhere. The same pumps were used after Hurricane Katrina. Shelters needed help and were overwhelmed by the needs of survivors. It looked like a war zone.

In the future, maybe helicopters could provide food by air in areas where people cannot be reached.

Scientists predict that more storms like this are on the horizon. Nature is overcome by global warming, and rising waters caused by the extensive melting in the Antarctic is taking over our way of life. Are we doomed?

Generators did not function at some hospitals, with patients being transported to other facilities. Will we have the financial input for a second monster like Sandy?
