The Huntsville Times reports that a man from Arab, Alabama was indicted for wearing war metals that he didn't earn. His motivation apparently was to impress a woman.
Douglas Lee Weaver, 35, is accused of unlawfully wearing a Silver Star, a Combat Infantry Badge and a Distinguished Service Cross. Violating the Stolen Valor Act, a misdemeanor, carries a penalty of up to a year in jail.
Birmingham defense attorney Scott Brower said his client borrowed a military uniform from a friend - complete with medals - for a Halloween party. There, he met a woman who became "infatuated" with the credentials, and Weaver pretended like they were his, the attorney said.
