Police suspect the same person robbed and assaulted two different people in Anniston Thursday evening.

Anniston police Lt. Fred Forsythe said officers are searching for possibly a single suspect who allegedly assaulted one man and robbed another between 11 p.m. and midnight on the 1300 block of West 10th Street Thursday.

“We can only speculate it’s the same person with the M.O. being the same,” Forsythe said. “We’re running down leads right now for a suspect.”

Forsythe said officers were called to Stringfellow Memorial Hospital to interview a 39-year-old man with a cut on his head Thursday evening. The victim stated that between 11 p.m. and midnight, another man armed with a knife or sharp object attempted to rob him. The incident occurred near the American Legion and the old Lucky Seven club, Forsythe said.

“He told officers he was going to his vehicle when another man approached him and demanded his money,” Forsythe said. “An altercation ensued and the victim received injuries and was able to escape and drive himself to the hospital.”

Forsythe said the suspect was unable to get money from the victim.

A second victim, age 40, was assaulted during the same time frame in the same area, Forsythe said. He said officers interviewed the victim at Regional Medical Center after he was treated for cuts on the upper part of his body.

“The victim said he was attacked from behind … he was getting out of his vehicle,” Forsythe said. “The suspect didn’t demand anything, he just attacked.”
