Anniston police are investigating an alleged assault and robbery that occurred at Cooper Homes on Thursday.

A 22-year-old Anniston man told police Thursday he was attacked by multiple men who hit him with a piece of wood and took his wallet while visiting a friend at the apartments on Cooper Avenue sometime between 7 p.m. and 8 p.m, according to Anniston police Sgt. Josh Doggrell. The man said his attackers took $30 in cash from his wallet, according to police reports.

The man reported the incident from his girlfriend’s home in east Anniston several hours after the alleged assault, Doggrell said.

“The responding officer reported he had severe lacerations,” Doggrell said. “He was slipping in and out of consciousness, and his girlfriend had to help filling in the officer.”

The man was transported to Stringfellow Hospital with multiple lacerations on his face, head and leg.

Doggrell said the man indicated he might know one of the men who assaulted him. Police are working today to identify suspects.

Doggrell said police had not investigated the crime scene as of 9:30 a.m. today.
