An Albertville native has distinguished himself in combat and was awarded a Bronze Star, with valor, on March 12, for killing an Iraqi insurgent, likely saving the lives of his soldiers, according to an Army report.
According to reports, Staff Sgt. Kelly Young, 39, and a graduate of Albertville High School, was guarding a roadway against Iraqi insurgents who were intending to place explosive devices about 14 miles south of Mosul when the events unfolded to warrant the awarding of the medal.
