TUSCALOOSA — If you want to see Nick Saban really light up with happiness, just ask him about the newest edition to his family. Saban recently became a grandfather. When asked about the new bundle of joy, Saban couldn’t stop smiling.

“I kind of went there early, early Sunday morning, like almost middle of the night early,” Saban said. “Terry beat me to the punch. She got up earlier than me. It’s really wonderful and you’ve really got to count your blessings to have a healthy baby and a healthy mother and someone that beautiful come into your family is really something that you have to count your blessings on. So many things may not always go right in those circumstances. We certainly feel like we’re blessed to have a healthy baby and someone in our family. They actually had a rocking chair over there so I was kind of happy rocking that baby a little bit.

“Since then, I haven’t been able to go back and she can’t come until Wednesday. I kind of miss the little bugger if you want to know the truth about it.”

JUCO players sign: While there is still a ton of recruiting to be done, Alabama’s 2014 class inked its first two members Wednesday.

Junior college defensive linemen Jarran Reed and D.J. Pettway both signed with the Crimson Tide. Both played for East Mississippi Community College College, which won the NJCAA championship last week. At 6-foot-4, 310-pounds, Reed racked up 66 tackles and 3.5 sacks this season. Among others, Reed had offers from Florida, Ole Miss and Tennessee.

Pettway was one of the four players dismissed from the team following a February arrest for second-degree robbery. Pettway was granted youthful offender status. Since Pettway signed with Alabama in 2011, he will not count against the 25 scholarship limit for the 2014 limit.

This season, Pettway had 47 tackles including 11.5 sacks. He was named a JUCO All-American.

All-Americans: Add a few more All-American honors to this current Alabama team’s resume.

Four Crimson Tide players were named to the AFCA FBS Coaches’ All-America Team. This All-American team is selected exclusively by the coaches.

Alabama quarterback AJ McCarron, linebacker C.J. Mosley, left tackle Cyrus Kouandjio and safety HaHa Clinton-Dix were all honored on Wednesday.

Mosley became a unanimous All-American after being named to the Football Writers Association of America. Clinton-Dix became a consensus All-American after being named to the FWAA.
