Alabama’s political-action committee for animals is growing stronger. Alabama Voters for Responsible Animal Legislation is a non-partisan PAC more than 6,000 members strong in only two and a half years. AVRAL PAC is designed to elect animal-friendly candidates at both the local and state levels and is also designed to pass animal-friendly laws in Alabama.

The general philosophy of AVRAL is that the current approach to animal welfare in our state costs taxpayers their well-earned money and offers little, if anything, to show for it. AVRAL supports low-cost spay and neuter but is concerned that low-cost spay/neuter clinics have come under threat recently. Dangerous dog laws are being considered in some communities. AVRAL supports dangerous dog laws rather than breed-specific legislation that targets dogs that may not be remotely dangerous. AVRAL is also focused on shelter standards, puppy mills, chaining and strengthening animal-abuse laws.

AVRAL is bringing positive attention to Alabama, which we need, and is a welcome change from the usual kind of attention Alabama garners.
