Judges, at any level, are bound by the oaths they take (“so help me God”) to uphold those laws without regard to their personal or religious beliefs. Why, then (“in the name of God”), would we want to re-elect a man to be the chief justice of the Supreme Court of Alabama who emphatically demonstrated his disregard for the rule of law, thumbed his nose at the ethical canons of his chosen field, and then left Alabama taxpayers to pick up the $500,000 tab for his defiance?
His ads say he stood up to the ACLU and the federal courts. Of course, the law found him wrong. Sound familiar? There was a demagogue from Barbour County in the 1960’s who had the same line. And the law found him wrong as well. Why should we elect a confirmed demagogue when there is a clear choice?
Judge Bob Vance is a proven, quality jurist with no agenda other than interpreting and following the law as it is written, not as he believes the law should be. We should be thankful we have a choice. Judge Bob Vance, he’s the right choice for the future of Alabama.
