Anniston police were looking Thursday for two men who attacked and shot a 73-year-old man, leaving him with injuries that sent him to the hospital.

The victim told police he was leaving his home on the 1300 block of West 15th Street shortly after 10 p.m. Wednesday when he saw two men come toward him as he locked the door.

One of the men had a handgun and said something the victim did not understand, investigators said.

Police said the victim drew his own revolver in an attempt to defend himself, but was shot before he could fire it.

The men fled, and police said the victim collapsed in his neighbor's yard and managed to call police.

The neighbor also called police, and police said the man was transported to Regional Medical Center with three gunshot wounds.

He was in the intensive care unit Thursday, with wounds in his abdomen, right hand and right thigh.
