The Birmingham News reports that authorities have rounded up more than 100 convicted sex offenders that were not living in the proper residence.
The first phase of operation Clean Slate, conducted over the past three months, sought to locate and verify addresses for 550 convicted sex offenders. Of that number, 441 were living at their listed address, said Marty Keely, U.S. Marshal for the northern district of Alabama.
There are a total 957 convicted sex offenders living in Jefferson County, Keely said. The residences of other offenders will be verified in phase two of the operation, which began today.
