Re “Red, white, blue and treason” (Phillip Tutor column, July 4):

Sir, your article about treason was very informative. Let us define treason. Treason is giving aid and comfort to the enemy. There was a Confederate States of America, to which the inhabitants swore allegiance as they had seceded from the union. President Jefferson Davis was a captive of the U.S. Army and held for several years. He kept demanding that they charge him, but they never did.

You want to call Maj. John Pelham a traitor. In naming names, why don’t you call John Kerry and Jane Fonda traitors? This would be more current.

Maybe I am biased. My grandfather surrendered to Gen. U.S. Grant on July 4, 1863, at Vicksburg, Miss.
